A surgical procedure that allows the surgeon to access the inside of the abdomen and pelvis without having to make large incisions in the skin. This procedure is also known as keyhole surgery or minimally invasive surgery.
Through a laparoscopic procedure using a laparoscope, patients can avoid the large incisions that are usually made in conventional surgery. The laparoscope is shaped like a small tube. This tool is equipped with a light and a camera that functions to convey images of the inside of the abdomen or pelvis to a monitor.
